SHUTTERS CARE AND MAINTAINENCE
- How should I clean my Timber Shutters?
- Painted Shutters: Cleaning with a dust cloth or with a feather duster, as with furniture, is the most important step in maintaining the finish. Dust collection on the surface of the blades or louvres, particularly the exterior, absorbs and holds moisture on humid days and damp evenings. You may use a damp cloth or a little dish wash detergent.
- Danish Oiled or French Oiled Finishes: After dusting, you may wish to apply a rejuvenating wood oil to replenish the rich tones of the timber, apply the oil to the shutters and frames then wipe off the excess with a dry cloth.
-
Do not wash with water or use heavy waxes.
Do not use abrasives such as scourers or steel wool
Do not use hot water, alcohol or solvents
Do not use excessive water, a light damp cloth is all that is needed
Do not use undue weight or pressure on the blades whilst wiping
If you have brass kick plates or hardware on your shutter installation be sure to use brass cleaning solution sparingly and not over the wood. If you have stainless steel or painted hardware a damp cloth is sufficient. A very diluted dish wash detergent for painted timber shutters is all that is required to maintain them.
